Modal Changelog

Product updates and improvements to Modal.

  1. Choose a region when creating a Proxy

Proxies can now be created in a specific AWS region instead of defaulting to us-east.

  2. Sandbox Sidecars are now in public alpha

Run helper containers alongside a Sandbox.

  3. Improved usage limits in the dashboard

We've redesigned how usage limits and threshold billing are presented across the dashboard.

  4. Exit Reasons chart for Sandboxes

See why your Sandboxes exited, including a distinction between memory-limit and memory-manager OOM kills.

  5. Find your own deploys faster with the "Last deployed by" filter

Your own user is now pinned to the top of the "Last deployed by" filter.

  6. Default member roles in Restricted Environments are now configurable

Default member Roles for Restricted Environments are now configurable. This effectively enables private Environments by preventing read and write access to anyone not explicitly given permission.

  7. Opt in to V2 Sandboxes with an environment variable

Set MODAL_SANDBOX_V2=1 to switch to V2 Sandboxes with no code changes.

  8. The Sandbox Filesystem API is now generally available

The new Sandbox filesystem API is GA; the legacy API is being deprecated.

  9. Directory Snapshots are now Generally Available

Directory Snapshots for Modal Sandboxes are now Generally Available.

  10. Metrics charts can be maximized and shared by link

Expand any metrics chart to full screen, and share a direct link to it.

  11. Workspaces can now set environment-specific budgets

Team and Enterprise Workspaces can now set Environment Budgets in addition to Workspace Budgets. Environment Budgets allow for a monthly cap of compute usage in a specific Environment.
